Motivation is always a hot topic that applies to your personal life and career.
Motivation is that amazing feeling of excitement inside our chests, that boost of energy to the brain that makes us think up 101 different ways to do things and solve problems.

Do you find yourself struggling with staying motivated? Does your motivation come in waves?
Do you have a method of motivating yourself? Well, I’d like to share some of my methods with you. Whether you need help motivating yourself in business, career progress or personal life, hopefully, you’ll find something in this blog that can help.
Without further ado, requesting permission to share my thoughts Captain Picard…

1. SELF HELP & BUSINESS BOOKS

There are ridiculous amounts of self-help books out there. Now, whilst I originally thought they were all baloney, it wasn’t until December 2018 I realised that actually, if something works for you, then great!
There’s something out there for everyone. A book that I might see as total rubbish, could work wonders for you. If it ignites a little motivation or emotional fire inside you, then great! Read it over and over!

I personally recommend Anthony (Tony) Robbins: Awaken The Giant Within.
This book really spoke to me. It picked me up when I was low and I’ve learnt numerous techniques to keep on top of my motivation. I’ll write a separate blog about this book.

2. MOTIVATIONAL PRACTICES

I’ll share with you one practice that I learnt from Tony Robbins.

I typed out questions on a piece of paper and taped them to my bathroom mirror.
EVERY TIME I brushed my teeth or shaved, I’d look at the questions and answer them.

Answering these questions every day reminds you of what you have and what is important to you. I answered these 90 days straight and believe this practice played a key part in my motivational development.

Here’s a few:

What am I happy about in my life right now? What about that makes me happy? How does that make me feel?
What am I excited about in my life right now? How does that make me feel?

Whether you’re in business, feeling low about life or at Uni, give this one a go.

3. START THE DAY RIGHT! 

What’s your perfect morning look like? I’m very much a man of routine. My perfect morning is a cup of tea – two sugars, watching Dan Walker and Louise Minchin in my dressing gown. I’ll make myself a good breakfast and answer my questions. Often I’ll listen to THE SAME songs that I find motivate me. (I’d like to do a separate blog on this).

Do you have any songs that make you feel happy or motivated? Make a playlist and LISTEN TO THEM! Get yourself pumped, have a dance, mime into your mirror. Music is a super powerful motivator and I use it as my trigger before busy days, long social interactions and even sunny, lazy days.

4. RECOGNISE WHEN YOU’RE DOWN

This one takes a bit of mental training. Try and recognise your different behaviour patterns when you’re feeling deflated and beaten up by life. When you do, try to reflect on this and the feelings you have, then action any of the above techniques!

Recognise > Reflect > Take Action.

You HAVE to be positive in order to focus. Focusing requires an undistracted mind. If you can’t focus, you can’t have clarity in your thoughts.

Many of my friends know what I have been through during the first half of 2019, but despite knowing my circumstances I’ve had a number of them asking “How on earth are you handling this so well? How are you always so happy?”

Truth be told: I CAN’T AFFORD TO BE NEGATIVE!

I recognised my feelings and changed the way I thought about things.

5. TALK

One of the most important things to do if you’re feeling defeated is to talk to someone. Despite being social creatures, evolving to communicate in many different ways, humans can really suck at talking!

Talk to your friends or family. They will help you.
I’ll do a separate blog on why talking is so important in this day and age but for now, find that one person you can talk to.
