Our 3 Main Website Services

Getting a website designed, developed and managed is a process that many business owners put off. Common excuses are “its expensive,” “I don’t have time” or “I’m not very techie.” Here is a rundown of each of the main services we provide. Hopefully, by the end, you’ll have a better understanding of how a website is created and what to do with it after. Our packages include all three services but if you’re looking for just one of them, that’s fine with us.

Let’s begin…

Website Design

In short website design is planning out how the website will look once it is finished. This process can vary in length of time depending on your needs, your existing branding and communication. We believe websites should be built with Purpose and Personality. Here’s what we mean by that.

  1. Purpose – What are you trying to achieve with your website? Are you trying to sell a product, inform your demographic or trying to capture more leads.
  2. Personality – What are you like as a business? Is your service stereotypically “serious” but are you quite laid back as an individual? Do you want the face of your business to be corporate or informal?

Using User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) knowledge, your website will be designed around how your website will function for your visitors and what you want them to do on your website. Sorry for the jargon, UX refers to how the audience interacts with the website. UI is what the website is made up of, how it looks, the positioning of features and so on.

That’s web design folks, it’s planning how your website will look and function before the physical building of the website begins.

Website Development

There isn’t really a fun way to describe development. This is basically the stage when the website is being built. We only build our websites in WordPress which is also known as a Content Management System (CMS). Using a CMS like WordPress makes it much easier to manage content across your website than using static code. WordPress also has thousands of templates to choose from so that those without coding knowledge can also have a go at making a website. We say “have a go” because it’s not always as easy as uploading a template. We’ll be typing up another blog soon as to why we prefer WordPress over other content management systems. Trust us though, WordPress is the best one to go with.

Website Management

A common mistake that a lot of businesses make after development is complete, is to leave their website alone. Please don’t do this! After a website has been developed you should consider having a decent hosting service (by the way ours is decent). That’s not it though, you’ll want an SSL certificate so visitors know that your website is safe to browse (by the way we also do this). These are pretty standard things however, as without hosting your website won’t be on the World Wide Web anyway.

A website also needs to be managed and maintained. Let’s use our website packages as an example as these include management. Across the month we monitor your website’s uptime. We have software that will alert us if a website goes down. This isn’t very common, however, as our servers have an uptime of 99.9%! WordPress websites are built using themes and plugins, these need to be updated as often as possible as they can cause vulnerabilities if left out of date. We’ll also link your website up to Google Analytics so we can monitor the journey visitors take across your website. If we think something needs to change, we’ll change it.

Managing a website is all about keeping it secure and up to date. This includes content as well. If you aren’t “techie” and don’t fancy training, you can send us your new content and we’ll put it up for you. This includes text, images, blogs etc.

There you have it, the three main stages of having a website. Make sure it looks good and functions for your visitors. Build it properly using a CMS like WordPress. Keep it secure and update all plugins, content and the theme. Our packages include search engine optimisation but we have decided not to go into that today as it requires a blog post of its own.
